Ep. 18 Developing Yourself as a Leader

Leadership can be a tricky thing to master. When just starting out, it is hard to know what to focus on and how to grow yourself. Do you grow in your knowledge of social media? What about team building? How about your own personality? SO many ways to turn and all of them are valid. So let's discuss it together!

Here are some of my best tips in growing as a leader.

First of all, you've got to start with becoming more self aware. That can come through personality assessments or simply analyzing your current reactions to your environments. It typically is easier to see those strengths and weaknesses through an assessment, but you may be able to do it on your own as well.

You'll hear about my rubber band analogy in reference to leadership development in this part here.

Secondly, you have to the be one setting the example. People will be looking to you for examples of how to do what they want to do. Set yourself apart by creating that atmosphere that allows growth and improvement on their part.

"You can't take old habits on the uphill climb you want to take."

Lastly, empower the people around you, regardless of if anyone else is doing that for you. Give the gift of inspiration, encouragement, and direction even if you have never been given that gift yourself.

Quoted from John Maxwell:

"If you aren't motivating them, you are manipulating them."

Give to the people around you the motivation that they need. Constantly. It is hard work, but that is the task that leaders have.

For you:

Keep pouring into yourself. Pour the rest that you need, the spiritual growth, the knowledge, everything that you need to be ready to turn and give to your people.
